Legal imapct on media 

-when producing digital media, there is a wide range of legislation that affects production

-some of these are acts of law

-some of these are legal issues

Freedom of Inofrmation Act 

Defamation Act 

  • Libel - written slander- tweet,post 
  • Slander - when you speak about someone in a way which puts their reputation down
Interllectual property-  how you can protect it, and which of copyright, patents, design right and trade marks applies to your work.

Defamation Act -Journalists must avoid making defamatory statements which could lead to libel cases. Defamatory statements are those which 'tend' to expose a person to 'hatred, ridicule or contempt', cause them to be 'shunned or avoided' or lowered in the estimation of 'right-thinking members of society'.

The human rights act -Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public.

Data protection -
  • Safeguarding sensitive information from data loss and corruption
  • Security strategies and processes that help secure sensitive data against corruption, compromise, and loss
  • The process of protecting data and ensuring its availability and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Privacy laws that control access to information relating to the individual, providing individuals with the right to see data held about themselves and to require correction
